We’re excited to share that our Bay Creek Coastal Retreat bathroom, a Cape Charles interior design project, was selected for the Houzz homepage as part of the featured Ideabook, 5 Fresh New Bathrooms with a Low-Curb Shower.
It’s always rewarding to see a project recognized, especially one that reflects the elements we love most: timeless materials, thoughtful craftsmanship, and beautiful, functional design.
This coastal bathroom features one of my favorite color palettes, handcrafted blue tile, crisp white finishes, warm bronze accents, and a custom white oak vanity. Every detail was selected to create a bathroom design that feels fresh, inviting, and timeless.
We’re grateful to the Houzz editorial team for recognizing our work and are excited to share the story behind this Cape Charles bathroom design.

One of the features highlighted by Houzz was the low-curb shower, a design choice that balances everyday function with timeless style. As I shared in the article, “Featuring a low-curb shower kept the overall project costs down.” By avoiding the structural changes required for a curbless shower, we were able to invest in details that elevate the overall bathroom renovation, such as a custom white oak vanity made by a local cabinet maker and the Delta Champagne Bronze plumbing fixtures: Delta Nicoli Champagne Bronze Wide-Spread Faucet.

This bathroom was designed to reflect the lifestyle our clients enjoy. Their home is located in Bay Creek, a beautiful bay-front golf course community in Cape Charles, so it was important that the space felt bright, relaxed, and inspired by the Chesapeake Bay. As I shared with Houzz, “we wanted the inside to reflect the lifestyle they enjoy.” Although the original bathroom felt dark and dated, we knew we could completely transform the space while keeping the existing plumbing layout.
The starting point for this Cape Charles interior design project was the Bedrosians Cloe tile in Baby Blue. It has always been one of my favorite handmade tiles because of its beautiful variation and organic texture. The shades of blue remind me of the Chesapeake Bay on a sunny summer day, and extending the tile all the way to the ceiling created the bright focal point the room was missing.
We also selected a matte hexagon for the shower floor, Bedrosians Celine 4″ Hexagon Tile in Matte White. A slip-resistant shower floor is an essential part of good bathroom design, but it doesn’t have to be boring. The subtle matte finish and modern pattern provide traction while allowing the handcrafted blue wall tile to remain the focal point.
To balance the blue tile, we added white shiplap to the walls for depth and texture. The remaining walls were painted Sherwin-Williams Kingston, a soft white that keeps the room feeling light and fresh without feeling stark.
The custom white oak vanity was designed specifically for this space, complete with furniture-style feet that give it a custom furniture look rather than built-in cabinetry. I love incorporating natural white oak because it brings warmth and texture while complementing the coastal feel of the home.
For the finishes, we selected Delta’s champagne bronze plumbing fixtures and Top Knobs Emerald Knob in honey bronze cabinet hardware to add warmth and contrast. These finishes pair beautifully with the blue tile and white oak, creating a timeless color palette that feels both classic and current.
Lighting was another important part of the design. We selected a vanity light with milk glass to provide soft, flattering light while adding another layer of character to the room. Every finish was chosen to work together, creating a bathroom that feels bright during the day and warm in the evening.

We’re incredibly grateful to the Houzz editorial team for recognizing our Bay Creek Coastal Retreat bathroom and including it in this inspiring collection.
